THE HAYWARD'S 40TH BIRTHDAYAnniversary talks and events sponsored by ![]()
Wednesday
9 July
Antony Gormley, Zaha Hadid, Anish Kapoor and Dennis Crompton join a distinguished group of
artists and architects in a discussion that takes The Hayward as its starting point. The debate focuses on different but often
concurrent approaches to designing gallery architecture: the great modernist tradition of building-as-machine and the idea
of gallery as sculptural icon. How do particular artists develop installation strategies that directly respond to a building’s
plan?

Friday 11 July
Artists, including Jeremy Deller and Robin Rhode, explore the parameters of public reception. They discuss approaches for
interaction with the public, between presentation, participation and calls for activism, as well as practices addressing communities,
constituencies and counter-publics.
